How much space do I need for an industrial washer?
It will depend entirely on your output requirements – our smallest machines are less than 1m2 in footprint, are largest over 20M in length.
How long is a cycle on a typical industrial washing machine?
Soiling is the biggest factor but in most applications a cycle time of 4-6 minutes can be expected in a wash/rinse batch process (cabinet) machine. A dedicated drying process may extend this up to 12-20 minutes depending on application.
How many baskets can I wash in a Newsmith basket washer?
Our dedicated range of basket washers range from standard solutions capable of 200 baskets per hour up to bespoke installations capable of >5000 baskets per hour.
How are industrial washing machines heated?
This depends on both the size of the machine and your available services on site. Generally speaking smaller industrial washing machines are better with electrical heating. For larger machines steam and gas based heat exchangers are more efficient, but come with their own servicing and environmental challenges.
What services are needed to connect to the machine?
At a minimum the machine will need an infeed water connection, outfeed drain connection and a three-phase electrical supply. Steam or gas heated machines will need a corresponding supply to suit, as well as a condensate return or gas flue. Depending on specification and heating medium compressed air may also be required (for valve control). In most applications machines are also connected to exhaust ducting to assist in the removal of steam and water vapour from operation, via a machine mounted steam extraction fan.
Do I need to connect the machine to softened water?
It is best practice to ensure that the machine is connected to a softened water supply, if possible, as water scale is the number one cause of maintenance problems in the long term. This is particularly important in hard water areas.
How is detergent dosed into the machine?
As an optional extra Newsmith can fit pumps for detergent, rinse aid, anti-foam and other chemicals. The particular pump and control method will depend on your specification and requirements – from simple timer based pumps to PLC controlled systems with level control and pH or conductivity based dosing.
Can Newsmith supply chemicals for washing machines?
Yes, Newsmith have a competitively priced range of chemicals for a variety of different applications.
How dry are items when they leave an industrial washing machine?
This depends on a number of different factors including:
- Material of the items being washed
- Design of the items being washed (i.e. presence of water traps such as crevices, rolled edges etc)
- The output of machine and length of cycle and process time
- Specified washing and rinsing temperatures
- Whether the machine has any dedicated drying process (i.e. fan blown air knives and heat exchangers) or is just a wash/rinse machine.
- Ambient temperature of the room
- Inclusion of washing solution additives such as detergent and rinse aid.
